Chapter 1: Clinical Overview
You must refer to the pharmacist, if in your conversation you discover that your patient:
Has used a treatment without confirming the presence of live head lice.
Has used a treatment incorrectly, such as not repeating the treatment after a week – this is necessary as the treatments do not necessarily kill the eggs, and these may hatch and restart an infestation.
The patient has used a treatment correctly, but it has not eradicated the head lice – this can be because of resistance to that treatment by the head lice, meaning an alternative that is different to the treatment first tried, must be recommended.
If the patient, or a family member is under 12 months of age, or is pregnant, breastfeeding or has sensitive skin.
