Regular Exercise
This is one of the most important choices to make.
A combination of exercises is recommended to strengthen and improve fitness – a physiotherapist can design a personal exercise regime.
Patients may think exercise will make their symptoms worse, however keeping active, building muscle and strengthening joints usually helps to improve symptoms.

Weight Loss
Being overweight often makes joint pain worse as it places extra strain on some joints.
Losing weight can be achieved by doing more physical activity and eating a healthier diet – a physiotherapist or GP can design an exercise plan, while a dietician can advise on healthier eating.

Living Aids
If walking is an issue then mobility aids can help, such as a walking stick.
If the hands are affected then using devices like tap turners and jar openers may be useful.
If leg joints are painful then correct footwear and cushioned inner soles may provide some relief.
An occupational therapist and some pharmacies may be able to advise the best assistance aids.
