“How may I help you today?” – Your patient mentions they have an itchy rash that’s not going away.
Be empathetic: “That sounds very uncomfortable. May I ask you a few questions to better understand your situation and recommend the best solution for you?”
As you build rapport during your conversation, you will get an understanding of your patient’s condition:
When did the itching and rash first start?
Have you noticed it getting worse, particularly at night?
Have you noticed any burrow-like tracks or red bumps on your skin?
Have you been in close contact with anyone who has similar symptoms?
Have you shared any bedding, towels, or clothing with others recently?
Do you have any other skin conditions or health concerns?
Are you currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for a baby?
These questions will help determine whether the symptoms are consistent with scabies and guide the appropriate course of action.
