  • “How may I help you today?” – Your patient mentions they have an itchy rash that’s not going away.

  • Be empathetic: “That sounds very uncomfortable. May I ask you a few questions to better understand your situation and recommend the best solution for you?”

  • As you build rapport during your conversation, you will get an understanding of your patient’s condition:

    • When did the itching and rash first start?

    • Have you noticed it getting worse, particularly at night?

    • Have you noticed any burrow-like tracks or red bumps on your skin?

    • Have you been in close contact with anyone who has similar symptoms?

    • Have you shared any bedding, towels, or clothing with others recently?

    • Do you have any other skin conditions or health concerns?

    • Are you currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for a baby?

These questions will help determine whether the symptoms are consistent with scabies and guide the appropriate course of action.
