Enquire
“How may I help you today?” – Your patient mentions they have an itchy rash that’s not going away.
Be empathetic: “That sounds uncomfortable. I’d like to ask you a few questions to better understand your situation and recommend the best solution for you.”
As you build rapport during your conversation, you will get an understanding of your patient’s condition:
When did the itching and rash first start?
Have you noticed any red, scaly patches or ring-shaped areas on your skin?
Are the symptoms mainly on your feet, between your toes, or other areas like your groin or scalp?
Have you been in close contact with anyone who has similar symptoms or shared personal items like towels or footwear?
Do you frequently walk barefoot in communal areas like swimming pools or gyms?
Have you had any previous episodes of tinea or fungal infections?
Are you currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for a baby?
These questions will help determine whether the symptoms are consistent with tinea and guide the appropriate course of action.
