Enquire

“How may I help you today?” – Your patient mentions they have an itchy rash that’s not going away.

Be empathetic: “That sounds uncomfortable. I’d like to ask you a few questions to better understand your situation and recommend the best solution for you.”

As you build rapport during your conversation, you will get an understanding of your patient’s condition:

  • When did the itching and rash first start?

  • Have you noticed any red, scaly patches or ring-shaped areas on your skin?

  • Are the symptoms mainly on your feet, between your toes, or other areas like your groin or scalp?

  • Have you been in close contact with anyone who has similar symptoms or shared personal items like towels or footwear?

  • Do you frequently walk barefoot in communal areas like swimming pools or gyms?

  • Have you had any previous episodes of tinea or fungal infections?

  • Are you currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for a baby?

These questions will help determine whether the symptoms are consistent with tinea and guide the appropriate course of action.
