  • Be empathetic “That must be uncomfortable, may I ask you some questions so I can recommend the best solution for you?”

  • As you build rapport during your conversation you will get an understanding of your patient’s condition.

  • How long since you were able pass a bowel motion properly? …… Is this unusual for you?

  • Have you changed anything recently in your diet or normal routine?

  • Do you take any medicines, and do you have any other health conditions?

  • Have you noticed any blood when you go to the toilet?

  • Do you have any pain when you go to the toilet?
