“How may I help you today?” - your patient has not been able to have a bowel motion for four days.
Be empathetic “That must be uncomfortable, may I ask you some questions so I can recommend the best solution for you?”
As you build rapport during your conversation you will get an understanding of your patient’s condition.
How long since you were able pass a bowel motion properly? …… Is this unusual for you?
Have you changed anything recently in your diet or normal routine?
Do you take any medicines, and do you have any other health conditions?
Have you noticed any blood when you go to the toilet?
Do you have any pain when you go to the toilet?
