Chapter 1: Clinical Overview
You must refer to the pharmacist, if in your conversation you discover that your patient:
is under 12 years of age.
takes other medicines, especially for blood pressure, cardio-vascular disease or anti-depressants.
has other health conditions, especially asthma or other lung diseases, or is pregnant or breastfeeding.
has mucous that is thick and coloured, as there may be a secondary bacterial infection.
has had a persistent cough for more than three weeks.
is coughing up blood.
has shortness of breathe, difficulty breathing or chest pain.
has unexplained weight loss, fever or tiredness.
