You must refer to the pharmacist, if in your conversation you discover that your patient:

  • has symptoms that may indicate a heart attack.

  • takes other medication, because some medicines can have the side effect of causing heartburn, for example some anti-inflammatories.

  • has other health conditions, or is pregnant, or breastfeeding.

  • has symptoms for the first time, with no obvious trigger, such as a recent large, spicy meal.

  • has frequent episodes, twice or more every week.

  • has different or more severe symptoms than usual.

The Pharmacist can assess the situation and refer on if necessary.
