What is Eczema?

  • Eczema is an immune response of the body, appearing as a chronic inflammatory skin condition.

  • Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema.

  • Eczema affects all ages, usually (>50%) appearing in babies two-to-six months old, most children grow out of it by the age of six.

  • Eczema is an immune response and not an infection by a fungus, virus or bacteria.

  • Sometimes a secondary bacterial or viral infection can occur and this will need referral to a doctor.
