Long-term diarrhoea can be caused by:
An inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn’s Disease or ulcerative colitis
Irritable bowel syndrome
Food intolerance, such as lactose intolerance
Diverticulitis
Malabsorption syndrome.
Certain medical treatments may cause diarrhoea, such as:
Some medicines, for example antibiotics
Taking too many laxatives
Radiotherapy
Chemotherapy
